This website page shows the audio-visual material that is part of my Master's thesis project that I conducted for the Research Master ‘Religious Studies’ at Utrecht University. The research is based on three months of anthropological fieldwork in the Central Moluccas, Indonesia, from October to December 2019. I studied the interrelation between a theological idea on traditional church music and actual religious attitudes and practices. I traced the transformation of this idea among theologians, clergy, church members and musicians, asking how traditional Moluccan music as framed within contextual Moluccan theology is interrelated with lived religion.
